The house
This luxurious and cosy gîte for 2 people is like new, this will be our third season! The gîte is fully equipped (including air conditioning), and is rated 5 stars. It is an old Perigordian house with character and built of natural stone. When it was renovated, it was completely insulated in terms of temperature and sound.
Through the private entrance at the front of the house, you enter a hall with a lazy staircase leading upstairs. On the first floor is a cosy bright and high room with a living area/kitchen. There is also a bedroom and a bathroom. All of this is air-conditioned. Here you can enjoy a short- or long-term holiday and unwind.
Living room:
Air conditioning, 2 armchairs and a dining table with chairs. There is also plenty of wardrobe space and a safe.
The kitchen:
Air conditioning, induction hob, extractor, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven/microwave combination, coffee machine, Nespresso and kettle. And all the necessary utensils for delicious cooking.
The bedroom:
Air-conditioned. There is a double bed (210×180 Auping) with the best tested mattresses. When you arrive, your bed is already made. There is ample wardrobe space for hanging clothes and shelves are provided.
The bathroom: a spacious shower, washbasin and toilet. Equipped with towels, bath mats and a hairdryer.
The garden: (over 3000 m2) there are several nice places to sit, depending on what you are looking for; sun or shade. Our guests are all welcome to use them!
We have a number of old trees that provide lovely coolness. In our backyard, we also have a covered area. Our guests are all welcome to use it! You can swim in the river near our house (800 metres). The river is refreshing and clean.
With our concept, we give our guests a feeling of coming home in a clean, attractive and luxurious ambience with a personal touch. We are present in the background as hosts. Depending on what the guests want, we can have more or less interaction and advise for day trips and tourist attractions.

When we had just bought our house and showed photos to family and friends, we got the same reaction several times:
"that's not a house, that's a castle!". We then proudly said, "our little castle!" And so the name for our house and gîte was quickly found; "Notre Chartreuse".

Restaurants, food & wine
The Dordogne offers delicious food and drink. Several restaurants can be found within walking distance of the gîte. It is so nice to walk to a restaurant or terrace and enjoy a glass of wine or beer. In the area, there are dozens of eateries ranging from snack to culinary. We can provide the necessary tips and you are always welcome with your questions.
Activities
Carsac-Aillac is a lively village just 7 km from the beautiful historical town of Sarlat-la-Canéda. The Dordogne River flows close to our house (800 metres) and there are several pebble beaches there. The river is refreshing and clean; you can swim, canoe and fish. Unesco has recognised the River Dordogne as the cleanest river in France.
The house is quietly located in the village with bakery, butcher, pharmacy, bar-tabac, wine shop, post office, ATM, several restaurants, supermarket and canoe and bike rental. In summer, there is a lively market every Sunday morning. Everything is within walking distance!
The town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, the pearl of the Dordogne, is easily accessible by bicycle, over what was once a railway and is now a cycle path called "la Voie Verte". Our house is located on this route.
Within a radius of 20 km from our house are a large number of tourist attractions: castles, special gardens, fortified villages, caves, walking and cycling routes and a swimming lake. All this is also easy to do by (electric) bike.
It is the ideal base for all kinds of activities. You can relax here and enjoy the fairytale-like surroundings, our house and large garden.
In the cottage you will find a folder with information on the tourist attractions in the area. Of course, we can also provide the necessary tips and you are always welcome with your questions.
