La Surprise Gites are located in a quiet rural area with very little traffic, but conveniently less than a 10 minute drive from Monpazier and Belves which have both been voted as most beautiful villages in France with many cafes, restaurants and shops. Both have markets selling local produce. Belves also has a night gourmet market in July and August as many of the local villages do.

Restaurants, food & wine

There are many French restaurants in the local villages, some of which we can personally recommend. You can find traditional French restaurants and also many wine bars, hotels and bistros . The local Bergerac wine is plentiful and very good, and there are many local vineyards who offer wine tasting experiences.

Activities

The Périgord Noir region, located in the Dordogne department of southwestern France, is a beautiful and culturally rich area full of history, natural beauty, and fascinating attractions. Known for its picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and ancient sites, the Périgord Noir is a prime destination for travellers looking to explore a blend of prehistoric, medieval, and Renaissance history. It is fun to take a Canoe down the Dordogne or Vezere rivers, or enjoy the water parks locally. Take a Balloon ride and view the beautiful countryside and Chateau from above: Château de Castelnaud, Château de Beynac. Many villages such as Les Eyzies-de-Tayac where you will find The Musée National de Préhistoire. La Roque-Gageac where you can visit Troglodyte dwellings carved into the cliffs. Domme and The Cave of Domme is a must-see, with its underground chambers and natural formations. Vézère Valley - The valley is home to several important prehistoric caves and archaeological sites, including the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume, Grotte de la Micoque, and Grotte de Lascaux.
