Reviews
Marijke Mertens from Antwerpen,
Harold en Lisette from Grou,
Sandra en Rob from Oosterhout,
Restaurants, food & wine
On the village square of Jumilhac, 2 km from the holiday home, you can visit the village café for a nice cup of coffee or glass of wine with a view of the castle. On the other side of the village square, you can enjoy a nice meal at the restaurant. In addition, there are excellent restaurants in the area for a delicious and atmospheric meal. If you want to do your own shopping, the weekly local markets are highly recommended. This is when French specialities are on sale in neighbouring towns and you can of course sample them. They sell local products such as local goat's cheese, truffles, meat from Limousin cows, Magret de Canard (duck), local sausages and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Or be surprised by the vegetables from our own vegetable garden that you can harvest yourself.
Activities
The gîte is located in National Parc de Perigord, a wooded area where you can experience rural France. You will find peace, space and nature with the cosiness of picturesque villages nearby. Just around the corner there are hiking trails for both experienced hikers and less trained hikers available. Some can be started directly from the holiday home. You can enjoy the beautiful views with the scenic landscape. The area has also mapped out routes for mountain bikers. For the fishermen among us, there is a trout pond nearby, where you can (have your own) trout prepared at the restaurant. The challenge for climbers lies against the mountain massif opposite the castle of Jumilhac-Le-Grand. Where you can experience the landscape from the heights. Nearby, it is also possible to go canoeing if the water level is sufficient. In the nearby village of Jumilhac (2 km), you can visit the imposing castle, located on the central village square. From the café terrace directly opposite the castle, the fairy-tale castle can also be admired from outside. For example, over a cup of coffee or from the restaurant on the square where you can enjoy a delicious meal. And of course there are weekly cosy markets with French specialities to visit in neighbouring towns. A visit to the Gold Museum is also worthwhile. It is located in the castle.
