Restaurants, food & wine

The various castles and caves where you’ll be able to enjoy the many wines that the area is known for. Restaurants are in abundance and for local markets you can shop to your hearts content in Sarlat, Domme, Le Bugue, Lalinde, and various other historic towns nearby. Several villages also celebrate several seasonal feasts with lots of food and dancing. Nearby Sarlat hosts a very quaint day, but also night market (during peak season). Cahors is renowned for it’s rich wines, which you can sample in the countless wine cellars. The same is true for Bergerac, and we could go on for a while. In short, the foodies can indulge fully in the area.

Activities

The Dordogne is known for it’s many forms of water activities like canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting. For those less brave of heart, there are numerous more casual boat tours along the stunning castles lining the valleys. Of course, there is plenty of opportunity to go for a swim. The riverside is dotted with patios and beaches. The river Dordogne is just 5 minutes away by car. A little bit longer if you bring your bicycle, but even on foot merely a brisk walk away. The forested area is ideally suited for outings on a bike, on one of many bicycle routes, or explore the area hiking through the stunning forests, valleys and towns. The GR6 long distance foot path runs through our area. The region knows many pre historic caves, ancient dwellings and caverns and many are accessible with a tour or guide. The region has been inhabited since before recorded time and there is evidence of cavemen in ancient rock drawings and dwellings hewn out of rock faces. The area is also home to numerous castles fortresses as well as some stunning vineyards and gardens. The town of Domme has a small airport with tours over the river and valleys by plane or helicopter. Or coast casually in a hot air balloon. The launching area is just outside our town. Or, perhaps, golfing is more your taste, for you, there is a wonderful golf course nearby.
