The house
The house, 2.5 km from Bellac, has been in our possession for 23 years and is equipped with every luxury. We have preserved as much as possible the original details such as the rustic kitchen floor. The "baanwachtershuis" is furnished with original fifties/sixties furniture and lighting combined with pleasant modern furnishings such as a modern (hanging) sofa in the living room. There is a television for DVD use only and has an HDMI connection. There is a wide selection of DVDs for adults (detectives, thrillers) and for children. The kitchen is modern with an integrated dishwasher and a five-burner gas stove with oven, microwave and a Braun filter coffee machine. Heating is by wood-burning stove and electric heaters. The stove has a glass door so you can see the burning logs. The bathroom has a shower, sink and washing machine. The toilet is separate.
The 2 bedrooms have original oak floors and are equipped with electric heaters. Electric blankets are available if required. There is a double bed of 1.40m by 2.00m. In this room you will find a cupboard with books, comics, drawing and painting materials and games.
The other room has a double bed with two mattresses of 0.80m by 2.00m. Both rooms have a wardrobe, mirror, table and chairs. On request, cot and high chair, pot and playpen are available. Some toys, scooters, stilts and a plastic inflatable pool can also be used.
In consultation with you, the beds will be made up according to your wishes. The price for making the beds is once per rental period. The garden is equipped with BBQ and adjustable garden/lounger with cushions and parasol. Your bicycle can be covered. An extra fridge is available in the outside room.
In 2011 a new red tiled roof was installed. Pictures of the house with a black slate roof are therefore nostalgia since then. In early 2017, the original windows and frames were renewed with double glazing.

The house is situated on a railway line, single track. Between 6.30 and 23.00, about twenty diesel trains pass by, depending on the season. The driver is used to waving and honking. The garden is oriented to the south and has two terraces where it is nice to sunbathe and dine. In the garden there is a well that used to supply the house with drinking water. The house is detached and around the house is always a place in the sun, shade or lee. For the more adventurous there is the river Le Vincou at 50 metres walking distance. In the summer you can build dams there. Le Vincou is not suitable for canoeing. In March/April/May the garden is in full bloom with tulips and daffodils. The summer and autumn are a combination of perennials and annuals in bloom. From the house you have a far and beautiful view on valley and hill, with horses around the house. From the house you can start directly with hiking trails. It is 2.5 km walking or cycling to the centre of Bellac. There you will find everything you need in small and large shops, including the large supermarkets Intermarché, Carrefour, Lidl and Action.

Het baanwachtershuisje is een heerlijke plek - als je van treinen houdt natuurlijk. Want die komen vlakbij langsdenderen. En ze toeteren inderdaad naar je. De nabijheid van de spoorbaan bepaalt mede de charme van deze met veel liefde en smaak gerenoveerde en ingerichte gîte die meteen aanvoelt als thuis, zeker voor mensen zoals wij die de jaren vijftig hebben meegemaakt. Wij hebben het zeer naar onze zin gehad.

Al voor de 5e keer in het geweldige Baanwachtershuis(je) van Robert Jan en Ellen geweest en wat hebben we weer genoten. Reservering voor 2022 is reeds gedaan.
Een compleet ingericht huis, bedden opgemaakt bij aankomst, flesje wijn en glazen verwelkomen ons, uitzicht geweldig, gastvrijheid bijzonder, omgeving heerlijk, Bellac een prachtig stadje (wel leegloop, maar blijft mooi), leuke uitstapjes om te doen, een heerlijk mee op 25 minuten rijden en zo veel meer.
Je mioet gewoon zelf gaan om te ervaren hoe fijn je het hebt in dit baanwachtershuis, waar de trein zich met kleine regelmaat laat zien en horen!Comment from Robert Jan Barens
Dank! Voor de lezer," mee op 25 minuten" , is het meer Lac de Pardoux, heerlijk strand en zwemwater.

Schattig huis, prachtige ligging, geweldig uitzicht vanuit de achtertuin en zeer compleet ingericht! Het treintje wat regelmatig langs komt heeft ons absoluut niet gestoord, sterker nog: het heeft zo z'n charme vinden wij.
Ook onze dwergteckel Geertje voelde zich hier helemaal thuis.
Veel te zien en te doen in de regio (klimbos, waterval(letje), velo-rail, wandelen etc.) dus we hadden nog wel een weekje willen blijven!

Restaurants, food & wine
The kitchen equipment of the house invites you to prepare delicious meals. Really everything is there. Bellac and its surroundings are characterised by many restaurants that serve 3-course meals for a very modest price in the afternoon. The small village restaurants are usually closed in the evening. In Bellac you can always eat well at Le Cheval Blanc, afternoon and evening.
At the Saturday morning market in Bellac, local farmers sell their meat and vegetables and other local delicacies. The last Saturday of the month you can also find a wine farmer (Pradot) with delicious wines from the Bordeaux region directly from their own wine estate.
Activities
Bellac is located 2.5 km from the house. The house is located on a high hill with stunning views of the surrounding area. In Bellac you will find supermarkets and the boulanger and a number of restaurants. On Saturday mornings the local market can be found in the centre where many local farmers sell their wares. In the summer months, the outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts in Bellac are open. Good affordable dining out, horse riding, swimming in lakes, canoeing, supping, local art, culture, hiking, cycling,steam train ride and velo rail are among the possibilities in immediate surroundings.
The surroundings of Bellac are characterised by a typical Limousin landscape with lots of sheep and cows. A hiking trail leads directly from the house to Bellac. Stronger walking and mountain biking can be done in the Mont de Blond mountains 5 km away. The area is also very suitable for cycling (with plenty of gears). (Electric) bikes can be hired 2.5 km away. Extensive tourist info and (hiking) maps are available for the tenant.
Limoges (40 km) is a leather and porcelain city and has a number of porcelain factories with magnificent showrooms and shops. Poitiers (70 km) with its huge amusement park is another city to visit. In Oradour sur Glane (22 km), you can reflect on the fact that the SS murdered the entire population of this village overnight during the war. The village has stood like this ever since. Very impressive.
Swimming: paddling in the little river Vincou near the house. Also nice for your dog. Water level is very low in high summer. For swimming go to the beautiful lake: Lac de Pardoux (25 km, also for boat rental )

Further remarks
Low season is year-round with the exception of Saturday 24 June to Saturday 26 August 2023. The rental price is 360 euros in low season. The rental price is 520 euros in high season. Includes electricity , water, wood for the indoor or outdoor wood stove.
Prices do not include a linen package of your choice of 40 euros per rental period, whether you rent for 1, 2 or more weeks. You will find your bed wonderfully made to your liking. For more than 1 week, a change package is available.
After the 2020- 2021 covid period, voluntary cleaning will be abolished. We expect you to leave it in tidy condition. Cleaning fee is compulsory a 50 euros. Subsequent guests would also like to arrive in a clean house.
No further costs.
In case of covid measures imposed by the French or Dutch government, you can shift your booked holiday period to a week that is free or, if you wish, get your money back.

High season is week 26 to week 34 in 2024 (Sat 22 June to Sat 24 August 2024) The rent is 520 euros per week.
The rest of the year is low season. The rental price is 360 euros per week. Per rental period including water, electricity and heating costs.
Your bed is made as desired. Per rental period you pay 40 euros for the linen package. For rentals of more than 1 week there is a change package ready for you. After rental period also washed. Final cleaning a 50 euros is mandatory. No additional costs. No deposit.
In case of COVID measures imposed by the French or Dutch government, you can transfer your reservation to another free period or get your money back.
