The house
In the green, hilly surroundings of the Limousin, you will find this 120-year-old cosy bread baking house that the French call a four à pain. It is a comfortable, recently renovated cosy accommodation for two people. On the floor are authentic large granite stones. Holiday home Four a Pain is located in the nature park "Parc Natural Regional de Milvaches en Limousin. The house consists of a living-/dining room with a small kitchen with cooker and fridge. Next to the living/dining room is a bedroom with a double bed. There is a small terrace next to the house. There is also a large lawn with sun beds and a hammock where you can relax.

The baker's house is part of a former farm with several buildings that have been renovated and partly rented out as a holiday home. The property is located in the picturesque, atmospheric hamlet of Villemonteix, municipality of Eymoutiers. The surroundings are quiet and hilly. Ideal for those looking for tranquillity and invites you to go for walks and mountain bike rides. Good chance to meet a deer, wild boar or fox on the way.
The French neighbours Jeanne and André are very friendly and grow their own vegetables. They also keep small livestock such as ducks, rabbits and chickens. They regularly surprise the guests of the four à pain with vegetables from their own vegetable garden.

Twee weken lang hebben wij ons ondergedompeld in het heerlijke Franse leven, mede dankzij het romantische broodbakkershuisje van Anita en Jaap (en Johnny). Het oude huisje was heel schoon zo ook het sanitair in het hoofdgebouw. Het bed is goed en alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig. Ondanks de hitte bleef het huisje lekker koel door de dikke stenen muren. De glooiende omgeving met vele zwemmeertjes is prachtig. Bedankt voor de mooie weken en jullie gastvrijheid.

Wij verbleven een week in Four a Pain, een schattig en authentiek tweepersoons huisje in Limousin. De omgeving is mooi, we vonden in het voor ons nog onbekende gebied fijne wandelroutes en (soms na een stukje rijden) leuke stadjes en bezienswaardigheden. Het huisje staat dicht op het huis van de verhuurders en de terrassen zijn aangrenzend. Hierdoor heb je veel aanspraak en hoor je elkaars gesprekken en bv. de geluiden van tv of radio duidelijk. Mogelijk is dat voor anderen gezellig, maar wij waren op zoek naar iets meer rust. Dankzij het sfeervolle rijtje stenen huizen, versierd met prachtige hibiscus ben je meteen onderdeel van het Franse leven. Het huisje zelf had schoner gekund bij aankomst, maar het sanitair (in een ander gebouw) is heerlijk en schoon.

Het is waar dat er dit jaar veel televisie is gekeken door ons in ons huis. Jammer dat er niet is gezegd dat men er last van had dan hadden wij de deur dicht gedaan en de tv zachter gezet. Wij hebben een nieuwe afscheiding gekocht zodat u geen last meer heeft van eventuele gesprekken op ons terras. U kunt nu bv aan het einde van het grasveld zitten. Dat is ruim 25 meter van ons terras af. Wij hebben ons best gedaan om alles schoon te maken. In het huisje is er een oude muur waar nog geen cement in zit maar een soort leem. Het kan dus gebeuren dat er wat gruis licht op de grond. Ons sanitair, bed en keuken zijn super schoon. Daar krijgen wij regelmatig complimenten over.

We hebben een heerlijke week gehad in de four a pain. Ondanks het weer wat helaas niet mee zat, hebben wij ons vermaakt door de mooie omgeving te bezoeken en door te genieten in het gezellige huisje. We hebben Jaap en Anira ervaren als gezellige en zeer gastvrijemensen.
Restaurants, food & wine
During the weekends, the villages in the area, which are so typical of the Limousin region, often host vide greniers (flea markets), marchés de producteurs (markets with local products) and cosy fairs. Here, with a glass of wine and a barbecue with live music, you can relax at long tables among the locals and other guests. There are also many restaurants where you can eat well for 14 euros. Nearby is the excellent restaurant La Ranche du Lac (make reservations). Also La Cave in Eymoutiers is assessed by our guests as fine.
Activities
In addition to enjoying the peace and quiet, making endless walks, swimming in one of the nearby lakes and possibly renting a canoe or boat, you can undertake various activities, such as:
- to a goat cheese farm (they speak English)
- to the dam of Lac de Vassivière.
- visit a trout farm and cast a line.
- Go to a potter's shop
- To the Museum of PAUL REBEYROLLE.
- go to the insect museum.
And so there are many more days out to do.

Further remarks
For those who want to swim, there is a lake with a sandy beach 10 minutes away. Lac de Vassiviere - one of the largest lakes in France - is half an hour away. There are plenty of water sports here and also an adventure park where you can climb and clamber between the trees using ropes high up (and low down for the little ones). Supermarkets and other shops are 10 minutes away in Eymoutiers and Chateauneuf de la Forêt.
As you can see from the photos, a nice toilet and shower are privately available. These are located in the building on the other side of your stay at 5 meters distance.

Rent is from Saturday to Saturday in high season. If you wish to come on a different day, this is possible outside the high season. Please contact us. Arrival from 1pm, departure no later than 10am. Duvet covers/sheets can be rented if required. Cleaning fee is € 55, which you will get back if you clean properly yourself. The Dutch owner will serve a welcome drink on arrival and will provide fresh baguettes and croissants the next morning if desired.
If you wish to use the washing machine we will charge you €7.50 for this. Meanwhile, there is also the possibility of washing clothes in the village at the petrol station.
