The house
This natural stone mountain house dating from the 1900s was restored by us in 1990, preserving as much of the house's character as possible, using natural and ecological local materials. A great deal of love and hard work also went into creating the garden, which was nothing but a heap of brambles when we arrived.
It comprises a large living room with open-plan kitchen, farm table (made from old roof rafters), chairs, two armchairs and a large open fireplace (wood optional). Direct access to the terrace with table, chairs and sun loungers. Shower room with large tiled shower, washbasin, towel rail, separate WC and washing machine.
The attic bedroom is on the first floor and has a double bed (160 x 200) (two single beds (90 cm) are also available).

Our little hamlet consists of three houses and three barns and is situated at an altitude of 800 m in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises. Surrounded by meadows grazed by cows, horses and woodland, this little hamlet sits on a sunny plateau overlooking the Garbet valley, just opposite the majestic Mont Valier (2838 m), the emblematic summit of the Couserans.
Our natural stone, wood and slate houses have been lovingly restored over the last forty years.
We also put a lot of effort into our large flower garden, because we love gardening.
Our commitment to the environment means that the local flora and fauna can find refuge at Anilac: we have many birds nesting here, lizards basking in the sun, salamanders appearing after the rain, squirrels jumping from tree to tree, sometimes we can even see one or two eagles flying over Anilac, roe deer tend to appear in autumn, orchids proliferate in spring, etc.....
In the houses you'll find all the modern comforts, even wi-fi......

We had a lovely holiday in Anilac. The gite was comfortable with a very beautiful garden. The location was perfect, peaceful and quiet but not to far away from the supermarket or restaurants. A good starting point to explore the pyrenees.

Le Valier turned out to be a lovely quiet gite with magnificant view on the peaks of the Pyrenees.

The Couserans is a Gascon and mountainous region, so cheese and charcuterie are king.
A well-known dish is cassoulet (called mounjetade in local dialect), as well as garbure (a peasant soup). The trout in the mountain streams are delicious.
Activities
For your leisure, the surrounding mountains invite you to go for quiet walks in search of the first orchids in spring, or ceps and chanterelles in autumn.
The starting points for sporting mountain hikes to the peaks, waterfalls and high altitude lakes are just a few kilometres away.
Fishing enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy in the surrounding rivers; the Garbet 4km, the Salat 6 km etc. or in the mountain lakes. Trout are plentiful but wild and not easy to catch......
In the surrounding area, you can also go horse-riding, mountain biking, road cycling, paragliding, golf, gliding, canoeing, caving, etc.......
Last but not least, Ariège is a land of history, with prehistoric caves such as Niaux and Mas d'Azil, castles and medieval towns, Romanesque churches and many scenic routes to explore.
On site, you'll find plenty of information on places to visit in Ariège, hiking maps and Pyrenees magazines, and we'll be delighted to advise you on your excursions.

We have the "Gîtes de France 3 épis" label as well as the "Terre et nature" label (Gîtes de France + Parc Naturel Pyrénées Ariégeoises), which rewards the environmental quality of the gîte as well as the architectural and ecological qualities of its management.
Before settling in Anilac in 1984, we travelled extensively around the world as backpackers. When our son was born, we chose Anilac as the place to raise our child, close to unspoilt nature. We fell in love with this ruined hamlet and the Couserans in general, and have never regretted our choice.
Years followed to restore this small mountain hamlet in natural stone. Landscaping a large sunny garden facing the majestic Mont Valier 2838 m. It's a way of life that echoes our convictions: Combining great comfort, a cocooning spirit and respect for nature and ecology.
I studied tourism and Peter is an engineer, and now we're retired.
