The house
General
Domaine de Villedese is a completely renovated former farmhouse, originally dating from 1830, The house is about 200 metres from the road. The 12-hectare site falls under Natura 2000 and is therefore a protected nature reserve. The nearest neighbours live about 600 metres away, the next habitation is 3 km away. The driveway is closed with an electrically operated gate.
The gite ( classified 4 stars ) occupies part of the house. The other part is occupied by Marjolein and Wim, the Dutch owners. Because of the construction of the house, it is situated on a cliff so that the first floor on one side of the building is the ground floor on the other side, you do not notice each other.
Layout
Ground floor:
The gite has an area of about 100 m² and is air-conditioned. In the whole house you have superfast fibre-optic internet. Via the terrace you enter the large kitchen/dining room (approx 30 m²) with separate cooking area. The kitchen is equipped with a four-burner hob, oven, dishwasher, large fridge with freezer, espresso machine, kettle and microwave. For outside, there is a plancha (Spanish cast-iron griddle) for delicious cooking. There is a Bluetooth speaker in the dining room.
The dining room has a wood-burning stove, wood is available free of charge.
The bathroom has a spacious bath with shower, large sink, toilet and washing machine.
There are two bedrooms, one with three single beds, two of which can be joined to make a double, and the other with a king-size (210 x 180 cm) . The beds are made on arrival and pool towels are waiting for you. One of the bedrooms has a built-in safe. Both bedrooms have mosquito nets and shutters.
First floor:
A wide staircase leads to the lounge (30 m²) with fireplace, large-screen (46-inch) HD 3D TV (including internet and all Dutch channels) and Blue Ray player. A wide selection of DVDs is available (also for children). There are books and games.
The house has a private swimming pool (5 x 10 metres), with sun terrace, shaded pergola and shower. In spring and autumn, the pool is heated if necessary.
Apart from the pool terrace, you have three terraces at your disposal, allowing you to choose to sit in the sun or shade at any time of day.

Domaine de Villedese is located in the quiet Val de Dagne, in the Corbieres region, some 1250 km from the Randstad, but 20 minutes from the monumental city of Carcassonne, three quarters of an hour from the Mediterranean and five quarters of an hour from the Spanish border. Despite its proximity to the coast and Carcassonne, the area is still virtually undiscovered by tourism. Villedese is in the middle of nature. It is still really quiet. The air is staggeringly pure: there is nothing in the far distance that causes even the slightest air pollution. The site covers 12 hectares, but there are hardly any buildings around it either. The only neighbours live about 500 metres away, with further habitation only in the village of Montlaur, 3 km away. In Montlaur (600 inhabitants) you will find a bar/restaurant, supermarket, pharmacy, post office and several wineries that produce fine wines. If you want more and bigger shops, Trèbes (15 min) and Carcassonne (20 min) are nearby.
The name "Villedese" is already mentioned in writings dating back to 800. On the property, therefore, you will find some ruins from times gone by.
The landscape on and around the estate is dominated by garrigue, woods, olive trees, fields and vineyards. You can take endless walks without meeting anyone, at most a vintner working his vines or the shepherd Pascal with his flock. The area is teeming with wildlife, but they are a bit more difficult to see, unless you explore nature on horseback (rental possibility nearby).
A little further away you will find Carcassonne with its world-famous medieval city centre, the impressive gorges of the Corbieres and the Montagne Noire, the famous Cathar castles and the famous beaches of the Languedoc with all the tourist attractions you could want. Hikers can indulge their hobby at every level: from beautiful coastal walks to climbing peaks of nearly 3,000 metres (the Canigou is fantastic!) and literally everything in between. Sporty cyclists can indulge themselves in the immediate surroundings; those who prefer flat cycling can take beautiful trips along the Canal du Midi.
The Val de Dagne is a fantastic holiday area in all seasons: in spring the exuberant colours of flowering fruit trees, the bright yellow gorse and the numerous species of wild flowers, including a large number of wild orchids. Summer is sunny, hot and dry, with frequent breezes providing some cooling. Autumn is the time of the "vendange", the wine picking, with vibrant activity everywhere and beautiful discoloured vineyards. Winter is the season of absolute calm, where you really feel far from the hectic world.

Domaine de Villedese is een pareltje. We hebben er een fantastische week gehad. De eigenaren Wim en Marjolijn zijn zeer vriendelijk en gastvrij. Nog nooit zo'n complete gite gehuurd. Prachtige omgeving. We hebben echt genoten, aanrader voor iedereen!

We kregen een warm welkom door de vriendelijke en discrete eigenaars.
Fijn welkomstpakket aanwezig met flesje wijn van de streek, bier, water, handdoeken, koffiebonen, afwasmiddel, shampoo, waszeep,… . Alles om de eerste dagen goed door te komen!
Prachtig huisje met smaak ingericht en dit in de ongerepte natuur! Het zwembad was ook mooi proper. Zeer mooie streek met vele bezienswaardigheden en lekkere restaurantjes! Infomap met leuke adresjes en activiteiten van de week lag klaar en hielp ons enorm. Bij vragen stonden de eigenaars steeds paraat met de nodige uitleg. Kortom, voor ons een dikke 10 plus!oene en mieneke boonstra from Marum,
we mochten een heerlijke week van de mooie gite van Wim en Marjolijn genieten,( helaas moesten we na 1 week door familie omstandigheden naar huis vertrekken) maar we hopen zeker nog eens terug te komen in deze zeer verzorgde gite, het ontbreekt je er aan niets en is er een probleem dan lossen de gastheer/vrouw dit binnen no time op, kortom... een aanrader , een plek waar je helemaal tot rust komt !
Restaurants, food & wine
Corbieres is a true wine region and has many wine estates where the most delicious wines can be tasted and bought. The area used to be known as a "bulk wine region", but now many winemakers have devoted themselves entirely to making top wines, with only the marketing lagging behind the well-known wine regions, so you can buy stunning wines for a reasonable price. The Minervois wine region is also a stone's throw away, while the town of Limoux, where the famous 'Blanquette de Limoux' comes from, is just a 45-minute drive away.
In the hinterland, there are many markets and farms where you can buy meat, cheese, bread, wine, honey, vegetables and fruit (all organic, of course) directly.
There are larger markets in Carcassonne, Lezignan, Castelnaudary and Narbonne, where you can get everything that makes the region culinary interesting.
The nearest restaurants are in Montlaur (2km, a super cosy and very good French village restaurant), Pradelles (3km, an Italian speciality restaurant), Monze (7km) and Servies (5km). There are also restaurants in Lagrasse, Camplong, Fabrezan, and of course in Trèbes and Carcassonne. Fontjoncouse (30km) is home to 'Auberge du vieux Puits', a three-star Michelin restaurant that also works a lot with local produce.
Whether it's wines, culinary specialities or restaurants:marjolein and Wim can give you many tips and help you find special addresses.
Activities
The immediate surroundings of the property are made for trips in nature: hiking, by mountain bike, or on horseback. There are rental possibilities in the area; routes are available in the house. There are also beautiful car trips to be made on virtually deserted roads.
Carcassonne has a beautiful, challenging 18-hole golf course. There are several courses near the coast.
There are many historical attractions: in ancient cities such as Carcassonne (also known for the world-famous fireworks on 14 July) and Lagrasse you can wander around or enjoy a terrace. The Cathar castles, the monasteries of Fontfroide and Lagrasse, and the beautiful caves are definitely worth a visit.
More modern attractions such as the safari park in Sigean, O2-Aventure in Carcassonne, Aqualand in Cap d'Agde or Port Leucate, and the Australia Park in Carcassonne are all within an hour's drive.
From Lezignan airport (25 mins) you can take a sightseeing flight over the region. There is also a Skydive simulator, where you can experience the thrill of freefall.

Further remarks
Besides by car, Domaine de Villedese can also be reached by plane: from Charleroi to Carcassonne (daily), from Dusseldorf (Weeze) to Beziers (twice a week), from Amsterdam to Toulouse (3 times a day) or from Rotterdam to Montpellier (4 times a week). Car hire is available at all the airports mentioned. A third option is by train. The HSL stops in Narbonne, 40km away, while Carcassonne also has a station.
If you come by car, take the D3 from Carcassonne to Lagrasse. The entrance to the site is clearly signposted on your right-hand side about 2.5 km after the village of Pradelles-en-Val. Tenants will be sent detailed directions.

We do require a deposit of € 150.00 to be paid with the rental price. After departure, the deposit will be refunded within 14 days, minus the settlement of any damage and additional cleaning costs if the gite is left very dirty.
The rental period always runs from Saturday to Saturday, whereby you are welcome from 5 p.m. on the day of arrival and are requested to leave no later than 10 a.m. on the day of departure.
If you wish to book a stay, we will send you a rental contract. We require a deposit of 30% of the rental price when signing the contract. The booking is final when the completed rental contract and the deposit have been received. You will receive a confirmation of this.
The remainder of the rental amount must be paid 6 weeks before the start of the stay (or, if the booking takes place within these 6 weeks, as soon as possible).
We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance before the booking period.
