The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some traffic

Le Petit Moulin is part of 3 separate buildings that was the old mill for Feilluns.
The interior has a real rustic charm and has an open plan kitchen / living / diner.
The simply equipped kitchen has a gas cooker with oven, a fridge freezer, 2 sinks with drainer and various cupboards for storage, the window over looks the gardens.
The dining area has a dining table with 6 chairs and the living area has seating for 4. The front door leads out into the garden where there is a table and chairs for outside dining and a wood fired BBQ.
The shower room has a large walk-in shower, wash basin with mirror above and shelving below, the toilet is next to the wash basin.
There are 2 double bedrooms, each one has a double bed, wardrobe with shelving and a small set of drawers. The windows look over the river and to the hills behind.
Downstairs and outside there is a second wc where the washing machine is located.
If you have high expectations of quality fixtures and fittings this may not be the place for you, it has everything you need but on a simple and basic level.
Included in the price is the use of bedding and towels, as is the cleaning after your departure. Unfortunately due to the mills location it is not accessible for disabled or infirm people.

Surroundings

The Moulin is accessed by a long narrow driveway with parking at the bottom. There is a huge cellar under the Mill which is great for storage of bicycles, the path leads upto the house, garden, patio and front door. It is set set back a couple of hundred meters from the road and is surrounded by wooded terrain. All the land along the stream for several hundred meters belongs to the Mill so you can relax in privacy and shade from the summer heat.
The surrounding area is very rural and beautiful and is the perfect place for people who really want to be able to escape the world for a week or two.
The mill is suitable for families but parents must be responsible for young children and the river.

  • Rural
  • Mountainous
  • Meadows and woodland

Restaurants, food & wine

There is a restaurant in Caudies de Fenouilledes also a bar that serves food about 13 kms away.
In Maury there is the Maison du Terroir, a restaurant which serves food for lunch and evenings.
There are many small villages nearby which offer wine tasting from thier "Caves" some will offer lunches too. La Pichenouille at Maury, Pierre`s at Belesta, The Auberge at Saint Martin, The Auberge at Sournia, The Catharom at Lapradelle.
For a great selection of local wines you could try Caramany, Lesquerde, Caudies de Fenouilledes, Maury and down to the coast for a selection from Collioure and Banyuls.

Activities

Climbing is at Saint Paul de Fenouillet - via ferrata at the Pont de la Fou.
Tennis courts at Le Vivier and Fosse - both are free of charge.
Swimming is in natural rivers. There is one close to the Mill or there is the large open air pool in Fosse during July/August 6 afternoons per week
There are many walks in the area from the Mill or various other neighbouring villages.
Riding is available at the Castel Fizel activity centre in Caudies de Fenouilledes.
The region offers a great opportunity for wine tasting. In the many of the surrounding villages there are wine "Caves" were you can try wines before you buy. Some of these larger Caves offer lunches or evening meals.
There are 3 superb Cathar castles with-in easy reach of the Mill - Queribus, Peyrepertuse and Puilaurens - all worthy of a visit.
If you would like to try something a bit more exciting, we would always reccommend white water rafting from Axat with Pyrene rafting, great fun and at times a little nerve racking - you will get wet....

  • Near hiking trails
  • Near riding

Further remarks

Please be aware, the Mill is in an isolated location with no properties nearby or street lamps at night. It really is for people who want to get away from the stress and strains of daily life, to unwind and totally relax.

At certain times of the year one of the other buildings will be used by the owner, this may be in July and August. They do have a private garden and terrace behind their property but they do have a right of way to the river.
